www.carrebizness.com's Carol Allen shows love...

I was reading through my associate Carol Allen's newsletter when I was unexpectedly overwhelmed by this...

There's usually not a lot of things in this world that really tick me off, but I do want to make note of this particular situation that's happened recently.  To Ian Andre Espinet, I want to say...Keep Your Head Up!
Ian, who had planned to have R&B Artist Carl Thomas at his Soul Kitchen event this evening, is pretty disappointed after Carl's management basically screwed him around, were very dishonest and ended up cancelling his appearance.  But, tonight's Soul Kitchen will go on as planned, without Carl.

As far as I'm concerned, Carl, who has not had a #1 hit since "I Wish" topped the R&B charts in 2000, should be more than happy that anyone is even interested in booking him, considering he's been out of the scene for so long.  If he doesn't want to come to Toronto, to hell with him.   In my opinion, Ian is undisputedly one of the hardest working Promoters in the city who makes sure that every time you come to one of his events, he makes it an experience where you are guaranteed to have a great time.  Recently, at Amnesia, one of Ian's signature events, I witnessed hip hop and house music royalty!  Hip Hop Icons, Kool Moe Dee, The Treacherous 3, Greg Nice and Crystal Waters who sings "Gypsy Woman" La Da Dee and "100%" were the surprise guests and they were all awesome! Plus, the Michael Jackson tribute was absolutely incredible.  And, on top of that I was in awe with my cotton candy and popcorn!  I know for a fact that I have never gone out to a party, had treats and great artists for less than $30, but Ian always finds a way to make it happen!

Ian, you truly are a blessing, and the city would be a big unfulfilled gaping hole without you.  Continue to do what you do, and never let anyone exhaust your energy.

SOUL KITCHEN: LIVE SESSIONS FEAT. CARL THOMAS POSTPONED TO FRIDAY OCTOBER 8TH 2010

What's up,

I'm not the biggest lover of poetry, however, "Desiderata", my favorite poem,  says:

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.  But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Like the voice of Donny Hathaway, and my other favorite poems "If" by Rudyard Kipling & "A Dream Deferred" by Langston Hughes, it always seems to keep me calm, and light my darkest hours, bringing clarity to cloudiness.

When I received the call yesterday that Carl Thomas had been inadvertedly double booked to a wedding in North Carolina, I went through about 8 emotional stages... all simultaneously.  I was angry, scared, insecure, etc.  I thought, "what if they don't come back to my events... what if this mars my reputation?  What if they liken this to the Jon B. thing in February.  But - they can't... I refunded everyone, and they were there and saw what happened.  But you're only as good as your last event...  But if "what have you done for me lately rings true, then Caribana was yet another in an almost flawless record no?".

I was on twitter and saw someone post "Let go...".  And I thought. And be.

Large companies have problems, roadblocks, obstacles and stop signs.  And so do small ones, trying to make their way and provide the best possible service.  I love what I do.  I love this city, and I love providing the quality, musical entertainment that I do...  So even this amount of conversation would lead to some sort of belief that I'm justifying or not justifying or whatever...

The bottom line is this.  ISH HAPPENS.  To us all.  No matter how we plan, plot or execute either, it's the law of life.  So all we can do is our best, and move on - to do our best.

Like Michael Jordan said,

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed".

And that's why I continue.  My granny gave me a ceramic that I wish I had today.  It said "Pobody's nerfect".   But, still I strive...  Sometimes, you just want to give up when it doesn't work out for you.  Just quit.  Metaphorically speaking, into every Summer a little RAIN must FALL.

Instead, in the case of Carl Thomas, my next special guest inside Soul Kitchen, I've decided to DEFER THE SUMMER - TO FALL.

The REVISED DATE for Soul Kitchen is THANKSGIVING LONG WEEKEND FRIDAY OCTOBER 8TH 2010.  Please tell a friend and spread the word.

New advanced tickets will be printed and distributed for next week.  $20 PRESALE opportunity continues online at www.ticketdoorway.com until September or while quantities last...

Thank you for your continued support and appreciation of my events.  I love and appreciate you for it.

By the way... Thanks for making Soul Kitchen Cruise one of the best events of the Summer.  Still in awe.

Until next time,

I remain,

Yours sincerely,
